Paco Rabanne, the designer who shocked the world with his futuristic vision of fashion in the 1960s has died February 3rd 2023. He was 88 years old.
Paco Rabanne, born Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo on February 18, 1934 in Pasajes, Spain, was a visionary fashion designer who has left a lasting impact on the fashion industry.
Rabanne was raised in a family of metalworkers and showed an interest in design and architecture at a young age. After studying architecture in Paris, he worked with couture designers such as Balenciaga and Courrèges, and later established his own fashion house in 1966.

Rabanne’s designs were unlike anything seen before, incorporating unusual materials such as metal, paper, and plastic into his collections. He was one of the first designers to incorporate futuristic and avant-garde elements into fashion, which would later become his signature style. One of Rabanne’s most famous collections, the “12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials,” showcased his innovative use of materials. The pieces, made from aluminum and plastic, were seen as groundbreaking at the time and are now considered iconic works of fashion.






In addition to his fashion design, Rabanne also made a name for himself in the perfume industry. His first fragrance, Calandre, was introduced in 1969 and is still sold today. He has since created many other successful fragrances, including Pour Homme and Ultraviolet.
Throughout his career, Rabanne has received numerous accolades and awards for his contributions to the fashion and perfume industries. In 2007, he was awarded the Legion of Honour by the French government for his contributions to fashion.
